Christmas 1948

Hi everybody, I'm still here.  I know I've been MIA lately but you all know how it is this time of year.  I have been coloring Christmas images like crazy but have not made any of them into cards yet.  So, I thought I would share one of my most favorite photos with you.  My parents, Mary and Howard Washburn, were born in 1930.  They married October 22, 1948.  My dad was in the Army, stationed in Alaska at that time.  This is a photo of their very first Christmas together.

My parents are the cutie patooties on the right.  My dad is standing in front of the tree and my mom is standing in front of him.  That was their only Christmas without children, as the very next August my sister Janet was born.  Following her was my sister Judy, then my sister Jacque.  Following them was my oldest brother Joe, then my brother John, then my brother Jeff.  They thought they were all done having children, then four years later they got a suprise, ME.  So yes, that makes seven children all named with J's.

Janet has four children and three grandchildren.  Judy has three children, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.  Jacque has one child, and three grandchildren.  Joe has three children.  John has three children, and three grandchildren.  Jeff has three children, and four grandchildren.  I am 50 years old and have been married to my best friend, Michael, for 27 years.  We were never blessed with children of our own, but we do have two fur babies, Siamese cats named Buffy and Angel.

So over their 64 years of marriage they have a lot of love spread around.  They are now 82 years old and I live right next door to them.  My brother Joe lives in a trailer on their lot.  He helps them out a whole bunch, and I do what I can to help also.  I'm so glad to be able to share this time in their lives with them.  They've been the best parents anyone could ask for.  My mom is my very best girlfriend.

Thank you Mom and Dad, I love you, and Merry Christmas.
Julie

  3. Hi Julie, I sall your old picture and I just had to read your whole story. Wow, what a wonderful story and family you have. I just love to see families that truly love each other and you can sure feel and see it in yours. As for you not having and human children, well girl you got my heart when I read the names of your babies. :O) Those are great names and I am pretty sure I know when that came from. When my husband Jerry and I were first married in 1993 we got two all black simanese cats and we named them Bonnie and Clyd. lol... Needless to say they both lived up to their names. Unfortunately we were still young and ended up moving about a year after we had these two beautiful cats and then ended up getting lost. Now 20 years later we do have two children both with names starting with Ms and three cats. Mine in a bombay and totally black. Her name is Lucy and she is like a dog that waites at the door for me to get home from work each night. We also have Casper a cat that just showed up one day and ran into our house and hearts. He is a ragdoll cat and was a very little very neglected kitten the day he showed up. Wow, what a great cat he had turned out to be. In the middle of all this is my Son and Husbands cat Boo. She is our mutt (lol) but a very fun cat for sure. Don't mean to go on and on, but I am sure with two cats of your own you get were I am coming from. :O) I ended up making a blog for just our silly little critters as well as my crafting blog so that anyone that has a certain interest for one or the other could check them out. My crafty blog is gobeagirl.blogspot.com and our cats' blog is pawpawrazzie.blogspot.com I would love it if you were interested and had the time to get to know you. Thanks for sharing your Mom and Dads' wonderful story. I truly love your picture and think of just how lucky you are to have them in your life and have such a fantastic picture. Hugs, Lisa G
